What is Coming My Way

and What You Need to Know!

I often get that little question in emails: “What’s happening? What’s next?” The truth is that one page is never enough to capture it all—there’s just so much going on at the same time. As many of you know, I’ve been training researchers across the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa. We still need to carry out training in the two largest ones—Mozambique and Angola. The challenge isn’t my schedule or my readiness to go, but rather aligning my time with those who will lead the process in each country. And here’s where you come in, prayer! Pray that the Lord would bring these schedules together in ways that only He can, surprising us all. I’m praying and hoping that this very month, a door will open in one of those two countries.

It is not good just to train them. After they are trained, they need to start “doing the research” immediately. That demands resources from their churches to support the ministry, envisioning the future with hundreds of groups of disciples making other disciples. As in some parts of the continent, the idea of doing research is not that popular among the evangelicals. Sadly, it is perceived as a foreign concept by many. Even then, we cannot give up. Some in their midst already see the strategic need for it, and they will become the advocates of change. We are already working with some of them. Yes, again, that’s where you can come in, praying!

It is hard to believe that September is gone, we are into a new season in South Africa—spring. Yes! Remember, we are in the Southern Hemisphere? Winter is gone; spring is here. With that, we are already starting to look ahead to the next year and wondering what the Owner of the harvest will have us be and do here. This coming December, we are looking forward to a short furlough in Brazil. We plan to visit supporters, churches, friends, and family. Yes, there will be quite a bit for us to do there. We are in the planning phase. And, yes, please pray for that too.

I just got back from a gathering with nearly 140 mission leaders, pastors, professors, and practitioners from across the Southern Hemisphere, what we often call “the majority world.” The heartbeat of our time together was collaboration: how can we, side by side, reach the unreached in our hemisphere and even see that impact flow into the north? The task is far too great for any of us alone, but together, it becomes possible. It wasn’t your typical conference, but rather a roundtable where we wrestled with challenges, shared dreams, and envisioned what God can do when His people truly work as one.

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing what God is doing in Africa, the needs of the harvest, and how ordinary people like you can make a difference in Africa. Our prayer is for 25 disciples who love HIS harvest to stand with us in this journey. If you’d like to be part of this beautiful mosaic He is weaving here, we’d love to hear from you. Yes, we do need more help!

There you have it. Pray, pray, and pray. Get involved. Bring others. Let’s do this “thing” together!
